View Full Version : Rigging with secondary relative movements

Hi everyone,

I'm building an Iron Man model similar to the movies and now is the rigging part.

I need to have all the little pieces in the suit to have secondary movements, controlled by me. (For example, I should be able to make the shoulder plates rotate no matter where the model is, etc).
My first instinct was to use set driven keys and just parent the pieces to the bones. The problem is that some of the pieces need to deform (even though he is pretty much a robot, I need deformations in some parts like the column, chest, neck, etc). And whenever I mix set driven keys with skinned parts, they just fall back in the place where the keys where taken.

How can I build such a rig??
I hope I made myself clear, thanks in advance,
Bernardo

I will have to loook it up when I get home, but there was an Issue of 3D world mag a month or two ago that talked about this very thing. I want to say it was issue 119, but you might go and ask on the 3D world forums. again I will look up the issue number when I get home.

Yeah, thanks. I'm looking forward to that :)

Here's a little preview of my suit. As you'll see, it has lots and lots of little pieces in it, but most of them are still not moving (the ones that do move are not skinned, just parented to the bones)

(I just uploaded this to YT, and right now quality REALLY is horrible... I guess they'll put the HQ version up in a few minutes)
