Hi guys, this morning i have a little question concerning PullDowns.

Im using Combustion but my question applies to any software.

Here it is:

We are using Maya to model, animate and render.
We animate and render in 24fps.
And we output in NTSC.

So, i have to Pulldown every single shot.

We all know that a pulldown let 3 frames intact and blends 2 frames.

But everytime i pulldown an Odd number of frames Ex: 1293
My last frame is blended with black, so i get an unusable frame because the fields filckers with black.
For now, to avoid that, i just replace the last frame with the one before in my editing timeline.

Is there any trick to avoid the black field filcker when pulldowning an odd sequence?

Thanks

Really simple. Always render a little more than you need. Just like film and any type of editing, you always get a little bit of lead in and out because some is needed for disolves and transitions between scenes.

Well here we work with a very tight animatic, the timeline gets frame accurate from the storyboard to the animatic, to the final frames. So i cant render more frames.

So my problem is that its missing a frame to blend with at the end.

But ill simply copy my last frame 2-3 times so that the last pulldown will have a frame to blend with.

Thanks Beaker, for the next show, ill try to make them understand the needs to render a little more frames.
