View Full Version : How to keep a group of faces from breaking when UV unwrapping?

Although I have created seams delimiting the area I want unwrapped, when I unwrap, they keep breaking into various separated areas
The image below shows at the moment the top of the bun selected, but it's the whole bun that I had previously selected to create all those separated islands of faces.

Any ideas?
I'll greatly appreciate your advice guys,

I'd check that you haven't any doubles or internal faces as these face indicators at the bottom of your selection do not look good.

Also ensure your seam is manifold; that it completes the loop or runs from edge to edge

If all else fails, delete your UVTexture.

When you unwrap only selected faces, those are made into an island. If they were part of some other island, Blender assumes you are unwrapping them because you want them to be a new island (why else unwrap?). Looks like that happened here.

Thank you so much for your replies gentlemen :)

RM, you were right. I did have double faces and edges. I forgot I read this could happen when spinning a mesh circle. Although you may be spinning it to only 360 it creates double faces for some reason (quite annoying).

RW, I can see how it could look like I had unwrapped a big mesh area, then selected a smaller area within the previous area and end up with what I have in the screenshot. But it wasn't like that that I obtained it. It only took me one unwrapping to obtain it :(
It was rather due to the fact that I had double faces that my UVs did not belong to the same island.

Thanks guys, I won't forget this lesson :)

Btw, the solution was simply to use mesh/vertices/"remove doubles", it did a perfect job! :)
Now it unwraps a nice and clean UV :)
