very proton in proportion.but dont you have anything else to say,such as how you made it? how many hours of render? are there layer passes? how big texture size? what modelling technique?......nice picture..very good...are those nano chicken eggs?

Some explanations:

- I decided to do the picture after find a good tutorial:

- one day of work

- The render is quick: 10 minutes
just the scanline render with a skydome and light tracer.
I had some effects in MAX effects: grain film and two blur for the depth of field. I don't use the effect Depth of field, that is not good. I do a first render of depth Z in elements of render for the front and the back. And I use the 2 pictures in a glow effect as mask texture in the second render for a good and quick effect of depth of field.

- For the materials, it's easy. I use a Oren-Nayar Blinn standard material and a Falloff map in the self-illumination and diffuse slot and set it to Perpendicular/Parallel. I put some bump with a procedural map (smoke, noise, cellular ...)

looks great! just like the photos in science class. 8-) I'm a bit curious about the eggs, though. They seem a bit too 'human' being carfully placed in the skin pore or whatever that hole thingy is. Otherwise, I love it to death!

That image makes me itch!!

I'd pose him a bit better, as he's too symmetrical right now. The antennae and legs all mirror one another, and the head is straight out of the body. I think the look is there. It really feels tiny.

Well that's rather timely. I spent all day yesterday looking for renders in this style in an attempt to make my own. I really like yours. However, I don't think there would be that much DOF through a SEM because its a really long "lens." Also, while the bug is really good as it is, I think it would look better with more detail somehow.

Looking better. I like the tiny little mushroom-looking things. I also think that the eyes wouldn't be very effective if they were as bumpy as they are.
