i am hoping to get into digital video composting and such to compliment my 3d skills. i would like to know which software support manipulation of footage as a mesh object. I am hoping to achieve similar results as in movies and commercials which have babies or animals mouths lypsincing to a voiceover. Thank you for any advice.

After FX has a mesh warp feature. You can specify the number of rows, columns etc... for more detailed work. I haven't really used it for anything but my experiments have been successful.
