View Full Version : Colour Calibration, and Photoshop
digitalshaman 12-03-2009, 04:20 PM Hi,
i've got myself into an annoying problem here. I've just calibrated my monitor with a spyder2pro. Now my OS (X) is very flat with its colours, if i open an image i created in photoshop it looks completely wrong, sort of toned, if i switch on 'Proof colours' with my monitor RGB its changes to the correct colours. Surely my Monitor RGB is using the colour icc all the time...? if i have to turn on my monitor rgb, then what is running before i turn it on?
Its really quite confusing, does anybody know the correct procedure or can point me in the direction of an explanation?
Many Thanks
Tim

If you have calibrated your monitor with a Spyder then you don't need to use profiles in Photoshop to see the accurate colors assuming the monitor is calibrated to the color space needed. Cheers!

ok so if i use an image as my desktop, and then open the same image in photoshop, the colours and contrast are diffferent. They match when i turn proofing colours on in ps.
Surely they should match all the time?

What kind of image are you editing in Photoshop? Is this for print, is this for web, something else?

the image isn't for print, its just a test i was doing and noticed a big colour difference.. The problem and confusion lies in the fact that if i preview something in my OS its one colour, if i open it in photoshop its another... so which is right? and why is this the first time this has happened.
is there some sort of conflict?

Photoshop is probably using another color profile in the preferences for something else, what you see on the desktop is correct.

As far as i know, PS uses RGB as a standard profile. Maybe your system profile is set to CMYK or some Pantone, HKS emulation? Those colors look a little bit toned with a LCD.

figured it out.. edit --> colour settings
photoshop was using a strange RGB icc instead of my monitor's RGB..
thanks!
