Ok, so this is driving me crazy because it makes no freakin' sense!!
For last few days my 3Ds Max has crashed at random times, for now reason(no hard processing input), and everytime it crashes, there's no busy system signal on my comp, just the interface of the program disappears, and all my work(unsaved) is gone!!! I'm using 3d Studio max 4.0....any suggestions??

Do you use any plugins or scripts?
And what hardware?

Try to remove all plugins, then install them one by one and keep testing which one is crashing Max.
It takes a little bit, but this is the easiest method to determine what your problem is.

I had some really weird problems with the Meshtools, though. They took my Max down every time I tried to mesh-edit a certain object and the last saved scene was unreadable.

I've never had a single problema with meshtools...
BTW, are you running max in OpenGL, Direct3D or heidi? What Os are you running? Are you using your motherboard and video card latest drivers? Have you updated your 3dsmax to 4.2?
It seems to me some hardware/driver problem.
Cheers!

Most such problems are related to memory. If You are using cheap RAM it can cause troubles. Try replace it - this could help. I encoutered such problems when using Pro/ Engineer and, of course, 3DS MAX - I replaced RAM and it works fine now.

Try this, and Good luck!!
