View Full Version : December's Challenge
12-03-2009, 05:40 AM
The topic for the month of December is as follows: "Balancing Act." Be creative, anything from tight rope walking to carrying a stack of objects will work. Your animation will still be judged by your peers on fluidity of poses and execution. Use your time wisely and good luck to anyone who chooses to rise to the challenge.
For anyone who doesn’t know of a site to host their WIPS I suggest trying Vimeo (http://www.vimeo.com/) or Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/). They are both very reliable video hosting websites and most people have access to them.
The Rules Are:
Make all the WIPS in Playblast form, then if you choose you can create your final piece in a more robust renderer (NOT necessary, you can still post the final with a playblast).
All animations should last at least 10 seconds long, that way there will be more clarity with what is going on.
All animations should last NO longer than 12 Seconds.
Youtube has been adding a second to the uploaded videos so if your animation comes to 13 seconds because of this I will understand. Just as long you aren't going beyond this everything should be ok.
All participants must show there work-in-progress before posting the final.
DO NOT add any audio.
HAVE FUN!!! :buttrock:

prashp143 - You have to post atleast one WIP here. When your animation is completed you have to post the final in the finals thread when it comes up, along with a 150x150 image. That's it, have fun!!!

Sounds awesome! I don't know if I'll have time this month, but I'll see if I can squeeze it in.

Hey, this is my first time competing in one of the animation challenges and would definitely like to get any critiques anyone is willing to give.

ReBHazard - Very cool. I like the route you went, and the poses look very strong. Keep posting I would love to see some more, and maybe I could give you some actual "constructive" critiques. Instead of just telling you that your on the right track. Only... don't get me wrong, you are, and it really it amazing.

Hey everyone, Here is an update on what I have been working on for this month's challenge.
Here is a copy of the reference photos I used.
Here is a copy of the plan that I layed out for my animation.
Right now I have been working on another project, but I still have every intention on finishing this challenge. I hope to see more entries make it's way to the challenge.
See you guys later.

So it has been a really busy month. Holiday shopping and now it's Christmas Eve, but here is my first blocking pass. I don't think that I will get this finished before the end of the month. I will try but the possibility is looking grim since I still have a lot going on for the rest of the month.
Here is what I have so far :)

Very nice animations, I'd give c&c but I don't know much about making 3d animations.
Are these challenges for 3d animation only? Or can we submit 2d stuff?
Also I'd love to learn more 3D animation, anyone know of any 3d modelling/ animation software that I can download for free? I've played with a Maya trial and also used to have a copy of Lightwave but lost it when my computer died a terrible death lol.
Thanks for any help :D

Azelrea - If you do decide you want to take part in the competition feel free to create your entry in 2D. As for the 3D software I have seen a lot of advertisement for "Blender". They say it's really good, easy to use, and free. I hope to see you in the future challenges.
