Title: Banker
Name: Iker Cortázar
Country: España
Software: Maya, mental ray, Mudbox, Photoshop
Hi everyone,
This is my latest personal work. I used Maya to model the scene and Photoshop to make the textures and compose the image. I also used Mudbox to make some normal maps. Rendered with Mental Ray using GI and FG.
I hope you like it. Critics and comments are more than welcome.

i really like the way u made the whole scene interesting by putting a birdish element in things, loved the trophies and pictures, indeed you put a lot of work in the image!, shaders look great too!
i don't know if its me only but i cant properly feel what his expression is!, what is actually going on in his mind. The currency in his hand emphasizes on the state of mind or expression but i really think that considering the level of your shaders, lighting, modeling and rendering work!. i think his face expression could use something more interesting.
i mean by looking at his hand i can tell that his personality is kinda greedy or pure business man kinda thing. but his face expression is a little bit less interesting compared to the level of work you have done!.
that wt i think about it

This is just a great idea (and great execution, of course!). Full of irony. I just love it.
You put wonderful details in the scene. The trophies to the left and right are just excellent. You also chose a great, yet simple title. 'Banker'. 'nuff said. It just hits it bullseye.
Love the character and his facial expression. At a first glimpse you might think it's just an anonymous smile, but you can literally feel there's something underneath. I think Monty Burns is quite the right comparison.

hey iker!
this is one great pic! I love the banksters expression. Mean to the bone! great idea and great execution as well!
two things I would like to give you my opinion on if you dont mind:
the seat cover looks a bit too flat and boring. Its quite a big red flat plane right behind your character. Maybe a leather structure with buttons on it would allow for more shading and contrast. Getting it darker (especially at the bottom) would also help you character to pop out a bit more.
and the lamp seems a bit too bright and distracts from the character a bit.
nonetheless, the award is well deserved! congrats and keep it up!
cheers,
christof

i agreed with mechaniac, hahaha, its a awesome image, perfect at first sight... but as everything it has it's flaws, and i would love to add a comment the green columns holding the trophy's, you could ed have rotated one, so they wouldn't look with exactly the same texture :P just a thought

Wow Iker, creo que te has vuelto a superar! Me encanta el tema, muy acorde a los tiempos, y sobretodo la sonrisa del buitre. Muy buena iluminaciσn.

Wow Iker, I think you've gotten to overcome! I love the theme, highly consistent nowadays, and specially the smile of the vulture. Very good lightning.
Brilliant CG and spot on social comment.
Please give us more close up pictures on things around the character ( of details)

Hi! Thank you very much for the new comments guys!!
First of all, here there are the screen captures with the lights. pedroconti I hope you can see there where the lights are placed.
The image 1 shows the main light (which emits photons)
The image 2 shows some secondary lights illuminating the character, the table and the chair.
And the images 3a and 3b show the rest of the lights that I put on the scene to retouch some areas of the scene. Some of them are emitting only specular. And the most of them are connected only to a few objects.
http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/842/lightsbanker.jpg
mechaniac: The leather structure with buttons was one of the options, but at last I decided to put the red one. Thanks for the critic!
Wualforvalle: The columns are not exactly the same, but they are very similar, you are right. Thanks for the critic you too!
Als: Well, I will try to compile some details or close-ups to post them.
I would want to say again thank you to ALL of you for view the image, and for your comments and critics.
Muchas gracias a todos y un saludo.

This is just fantastic. Shaders are excellent! I think the only thing I'd add is a golden parachute somewhere in the scene or on his back even, to indicate that the "Titanic is sinking" and he's READY.

First of all: A really lovely scene.
A lot of things works really, really well!
If I should suggest something, that I think would improve a bit, it would be to lower the general lighting, and let the lamp be the major light source.
I know it feels kinda lame, since you added so much detail into the background, and of couse you want to show all of that, which I perfectly understand, but I think it can still be shown, or at least felt, with a lot less light.
And as the lamp as light source, it would add harder shadows and less bounce, which will add to the feeling of the image, of him being the bad guy.
As for the character, I think you could improve somewhat, but hey - this is nitpicking - I don't REALLY feel he is looking dead on at me. It's close though, but a very slight adjustment would do the trick.
Also, it's not super clear he is smiling, I can see it, but it could still be exaggerated I guess.
Anyways, I'm giving you a hard time here, it looks really really great! :D
Cheers
Wualforvalle

well now that you remind of the light doffer, this type of lighting is what you get (in real life) when you point the light at the ceiling.
Darker... hmm idk, you could compare them, but i really like this one :P

Fantastic. I love the environment and all the work you put into making his office so stereotypical, with all the plaques and awards and certificates and then all his desk items. He has the perfect expression with that big friendly smile and that staring-down-his-nose at you posture that combine to make such a neat image.
