Hi!

Im a newbie in Maya coming from 3dsmax and need some lil help from you (super skilled maya pros;)

My main area of interestion is polygonal modelling so I would like to know which tools (scripts) are best to install because Im quite dissapointed by standard maya poly editing tools (I cant still forget the great modelling in max:blush: )

I would also like to customize colors of selections in views (object, face, vertex) but even after going through settings/preferences I cant find it anywhere:shrug:

Many thanks for any answer to me!

I dont fit into the "super skilled maya pros" catagory but MJPolyTools and Bonus Tools from Maya are indespensable.
Many others too many to mention.

Component colors are:

"Reference > Menus > Window >
Window > Settings/Preferences > Colors
The Colors window has three tabs. Each tab allows you to change the default colors for a different set of components.

Options
General tab

Use the General tab to change the default colors for components in these areas: 3D Views, User Defined, Ghosts, Heads Up Display, Animation, Animation Editors, Multilister, Hypergraph / Hypershade, Outliner, and Trax Editor.

Active tab

Use the Active tab to change the default colors for components in these areas: General, Objects, Components, Deformers, Manipulators, Animation, and Artisan Brushes.

Inactive tab

Use the Inactive tab to set the colors for objects that are not selected. The Inactive tab lets you change the default colors in the following areas or tools: General, Modeling, Objects, Components, Deformers, and Animation."

Oh and as far as Maya modeling tools are concerned they are ,as I am finding out, excellent to say the least.
Just give it some time and get used to the organization and workflow(very cutomizable also) and you will agree.
Coming from Lightwave I was thinking WTF!? but now seeing many months later what exactly Maya has to offer I will not go back neither will I look beyond.
Saying otherwise just shows inexperience within Mayas deep versatility.

Hope this helps a little....

;)

Many thanks Alias!!:)

It helped a lot!

Im just curious, is there any option to shade selected faces in solid color instead of ugly dithered pattern?? Simply in 100% color not semi-transparent.

About your feeling when starting with Maya - exactly my case ...WTF!

I have to "hold my breath" and go deeper with the app...

Ahhh, do you mean that flat shaded instead of smooth shaded one?.

Do you think it is really ugly on smooth shade?:)

No he is talking about like when you select a face how it dithers the selection ...I agree its ugly but I hurry uo and do what I need to and deselect.LOL!

I think its coded into the .exe or something.Maybe/maybe not.

Ahhh, that orange color applied to the selected faces isn't it.

I agree with you as soon as we finish dealing with it de-select it. The sooner the better.
