View Full Version : 2d Landscape: Jerusalem. Ink And Marker
blankslatejoe 08-20-2003, 07:43 AM Hey everyone, it's been awhile since I've posted, but here's a drawing I've been working on. It's based off of a googled photograph, and is colored using a limited pallette of prismacolor markers.
I'm using only cool greys and french grays, along with Salmon for the reddish areas, and used Zig Millineums (08, 01) for the linework. This is after about 12-15 hours of work. (I'm slow, and learning)

It's coming along slow, and I'll post more as I finish more. I just wanted to get this up before I fell asleep. Crits/comments welcome!

Hey Joe, I dig it.
But, strangely, I really dig the scan.
The scan brings out the darks more, or darkens them more, you know what I mean.
In person, maybe just because of the light where you showed it to me, they weren't all that dark.
But then again, I am an diabolical, maniacle evil future world ruler.
Doom Out.

Heather- I don't really have any other plans for the project, other than finishing it. I've been trying to get better with the markers for awhile now and I'll eventually make more drawings in this style. It's pretty rewarding to work with.
Andy- Yeah, the original does kind of look more faded. It feels a little more saturated when viewed onscreen.
Thanks guys! Wish me luck on finishing this!

Marvellous. If I ever start making Old School Adventure game, I'll definitely seek you out. That'd make a perfect background.
Keep the outlines clear and colours light and that going to be a masterpiece. No, it already is.:applause:

Mods: thanks for combining my img tag gliches, I appreciate it.
I went out and bought myself some more colors (I was keeping a running tabs of "colors i wished i owned" as I worked on this). So I'll be adding "Cloud Blue", "Brittany Blue" and "cream" into the mix.
Thanks for the warm comments guys, I'll get another update tonight!

OK guys, sorry for the long delay, but it's finally finished. It's really late, and I'm really tired, but I think it turned out pretty decent.
Comments, crits welcome, tommorrow I'll post this up in the finished section.
Thanks!

it looks really good ....only crit i can think of is that the wall in the shadow on the...well, im guessing its a church...looks a bit flat...the only reason i pick it out is since you put in the detail in the rest of that closeup building, but the window looks like it could use slightly different shading...the rest of the walls/windows in the background dont bother me since they are the background...but thats just imo
out of curiosity...what kind of paper did you use for it? and what size is it?

jeremy, thanks dude!
heather, well, it's actually ...ah.... how to say... in my sketchbook... so.. standard strathmore paper. 8 inches by 10 inches.
I was working... very tiny. Next time I'll switch to illustration board before it becomes such a big project.
I'm happy with how it turned out, but if I get the time, I'll look into re-addressing that shadow. THanks!
Oh, since I was using a limited color pallete, here's a color list if anyone cares to know:
Warm Gray 20%
Cold Gray 10, 30, 50, 70, 90%
French Gray 10, 30, 50, 70%
Salmon
Brittany Blue
Cloud Blue
Cream
