View Full Version : rendering highlights
mihkeltt 08-19-2003, 10:11 PM is there a way to render highlights again without rerendering the whole picture as the highlights is a post-effect. i'm trying to adjust the highlights properly but don't want to wait for the whole scene to be rendered again and again just to see how much has the highlights changed. need an answer.

Try using Render Region to render just part of the viewport

I don't think you can render only highlight in a way to
save time. A workaround is to render multipass and
tweak the highlight layer in a 2D application.

Hello... just an idea here.. haven't tried it.
Can't you just put the old picture as a background object and tweak the highlight color ranges?
Keep in mind though that color information above 1.0 is discarded when you saved the picture to disc.. So the highlights can only be based on the actual colors in the picture with this tecnique.

Check out this tutorial for rendering selected regions of your image: Render region in Cinema (http://www.cartesiuscreations.com/tutorials/render_tut/render_region.html)

cartesius, I like your render region technique very much! It's very clever. Do you think that it would work for animation? Perhaps the plane could be a child of the camera? Have you tried it like that?

Hi Iggy,
No, I haven't tried it with an animation but I see no obvious reason why it shouldn't work. Give it a try and see what happens :)
