View Full Version : I lost my comand panel...
robioto 08-19-2003, 06:56 PM Man this is a pain in the butt. I undocked the command panel and dragged it over to my second monitor, when I then clicked on it it disappeared. RMB clicking and selecting "show command panel" dosen't bring it back. I guess I'll start looking throught the manuals but I doubt I'm going to find anything.
If anyone has any advice or tips please pass them on.
Other things I've tried so far, resetting, reloading and changing ui configs, took out old ini file, tried to edit ini file but there wan't a visibility line under the command line listing, moved the max window over to the 2nd monitor, all of these have been to no avail. I can't seem to get the thing back.
Any help is appreciated.

I forgot to mention this is 3dsmax 5.1 sp1, not that I think the version has anything to do with it.

Uh-oh! You need to buy a new copy of max now! That one is hosed.:hmm:
J/K of course. You could try selecting a new GUI default in the Customize tools. Select like max "X" GUI then revert back to which ever set up you had, That *should* restore your command panel. If I could replicate your problem I'd probably be able to offer a better resolution but I gave up the dual monitors in favour of one large- too many hassles in other apps.

Another way I would go about it was just del'ing the *.ini file that holds all the ui info believe it is 3dmax.ini but the latter way is simpler.

I'm hesitant to bump this but I wanted to thank you guys for your responses.
I had tried loading different UIs but for some reason the command panel wasn't showing up. Ultimately loading even more of the other UI options solved the problem, although a couple of them are buggered by the missing command panel. I had also tried editing the 3dsmax.ini file but couldn't find any relevant lines to change.
Thanks!

sweet.....about the ini file just deleting it entirely will do the trick. Upon max starting up it recreates a new file if the old one has been missplaced or deleted intentionally.

run the max setup again,
and choose the repair option. this will reload all your max default settings.
worked for me. :)
