View Full Version : Skew Tool in Maya?
johnnyMac 08-19-2003, 05:18 PM anyone listening,
i created a landscape and have referenced buildings into the scene. the terrain falls off in one direction so i'm wondering how can i skew the model so one side remains in place and the other moves along the Y axis.
if any of you use lightwave i'm looking for something similar to their skew tool.
solid.

Without seeing the scene ...you might try a Lattice.

How about:
Create non-linear Flare/Bend. Any of those closer?
And lattices are not cheats. EVERYTHING in CG is a cheat/workaround/hack/trick/scam/illusion/fix/tweak.
My lattice cheat key is Shift+L

i havent ever used that. i'll have to look into it. i started using the lattice deformer but i might try this for a couple of the houses just to see how it works.
i agree. everything is fair in 3d. we all use a little smoke and mirrors even if they are tools built into maya. david copperfield aint got nuttin on 3d.
thanks.

I dont think its "cheating" by any means....
Nor is it a work around.
Just because they are in the animation section doesnt mean you cant use them for modeling.

It's not about cheating anyway, but if really want to have another option, you can use Shear in the transform node to do skew. By default those attributes is not keyable, but you can use channel control to bring it in.
