Hi all!

I'm trying to solve a problem with my production workflow. Usually I texture and render in Maya and Photoshop on a PC. The rendered frames are then transfered to Final Cut Pro on a Mac for editing. However, the brightness of the images always differs greatly between the 2 platforms. It's most frustrating to get things looking just right in Maya only to find that the product looks terrible on a standard TV or calibrated monitor.
Obviously it would be great to have a calibrated monitor attached to my PC. Unfortunately Santa forgot to bring me one last yaer. Bastard!
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone out there has a method for adjusting the settings on my monitor to match those of a calibrated TV.
(I can't just put the PC monitor next to the calibrated monitor for adjustment because one's at work and the other's at home!)

Can anyone help???

Matt

Welcome to the world of NTSC(never the same color), YUV space and 4:2:2. :)

You wouldn't happen to have a video card with a tv-out on it. Many NV and ATi cards come with them these days. Just hook up your regular tv to it and use the tv as a second monitor. Drag your viewer over to the second monitor(tv). The RGB to YUV conversion on those things are pretty crappy, but they will give you a better idea.

One thing you might want to consider is looking at using renderlayers and compositing of your 3d images. That way you can individually tweak color elelments in the compositor that is hooked up to an ntsc monitor before it goes to the editors. There isn't one piece of film or television material these days that isn't color tweaked before final output. Worry less about color in 3d and more in 2d.
