Hi!

I'm a student in my last year of Technical Engineering in Computer Systems, in Facultad de informática de A Coruña (http://www.fic.udc.es/MainPage.do) (Spain), and I would like to design and implement a new function for 3ds max, using maxscript, 3dsMax SDK, phyton... wathever you want (or all of them).

It will become an open source project, so I came here to ask you, who are used to manage with several problems or tedious processes, for great ideas to present to my advisor. It will take me at least until July, so it could be a huge tool, not as that kind of micro-tools used to select near vertex, or that kind of stuff.

I know you have really good ideas for improve the capacity of 3ds Max (version 9 or greater), so i would like to listen to them all and, as the project progresses, write/read here doubts about what you really want/need. I will post pictures of the interface, pictures of the results, and anything you want, so I can create a tool aimed for the final user, hearing what you need.

neat. did i get this correct? You would like ideas on tools that would improve 3dsmax, and you will then write one of that tools?

Assuming I've understood correctly: here's my wishlist:

1) Something like mograph from cinema4d, to work with tons of objects, move them, scatter and animate them. 3dsmax has a lot of tools to manipulate vertices, but not many tools to manipulate objects. Easiest example: The tool should let you scale distances between objects without scaling the objects themselves.

2) A symmetry tool like in Silo. Max' default symmetry modifier is great as long as you're modelling. But after unwrapping and texturing it's really hard to keep you're model symmetrical, or semi symmetrical. In Silo and Mudbox you can select an edge and make it the symmetry axis. Even if only a portion of the mesh is symmetrical. that's really very helpful.

Hi David!

Yes, you understood ir correctly, and those two ideas are great. I found the same problem with symmetry tool on 3ds max, so it will be a nice tool to improve. Keep on sending me ideas, and, probably, this week, I'll tell you the one (or group of them) I choose.
