Assume that you could tell the people at New Tek what plugins
should be included in the next release.
What would you recommend?

And please, lets keep this thread constructive.

I'm using a lot of plugins(free AND commercial) already and it would be really awesome if the functionaity of these could be enhanced by a more open and bugfree SDK and base [8]-program. One first thing that comes to my mind would be 3rd party renderers !!!!!

Amelie it's such a cool idea
i've only been playing with the demo for afew hours and it needs to be in LW8

hmm....

PatchIt

basically i would like more interactive tools for my pretty modeler

Bevel ++. Definately.

:edit:

Forgot this one - Swift 3D. Or a flash renderer of some sort.

My vote goes to the volumetric plug OGO_Taiki.

The results are incredible.

Here is the link:

I find myself using allot of modeler plugins

Modeler

Pawel OLAS - Bridge tool
David Ikeda Tools
Bevel ++
Vertibevel

Layout

Yes that Universal volumetric atmoshere plug-in would be a much needed plugin. Sky Tracer 2 while having many variables is very limited.

Full Sasquatch implementation.
All of Worleys tools are ingenious. Get as many as Newtek can get in.

edit: Oh yes a Flash output renderer

I personaly try and keep away from plugins in Layout. Loading old 3rd party plugin scenes in new Lightwave versions can be a mess :hmm:

I would like real edge editing. At least something like Dstorm's Edgetools (something a bit more user friendly would be great).
Just my 2 cents.

I would like to see soome advanced bevel tool like bevel++ or vertibevel. Off course sas or g2 would be great but they are probably too expensive to integrate. Ekis plugpak is awsome too, I really think about buying it but I will wait to see whats in 8.
There are so many little modeller tools from d-storm, david ikeda or FI. NewTek should get the best of them integrated. PatchIt is another candidate.
And a better Netweorkrenderer would be awesome. There are so many good ones out there compared to the build in option.

Not directly a 3rd party plug-in, but I would like to see the ability to use a 3rd party renderer. A number of the 3rd party renderer developers for MAX are busy making ports to Maya, or else are going platform independant. There are a couple I would dearly love to see ported to LW.

LW's AA is good, but dog slow, but it is still better than LW's GI render engine which is not very good (by todays standards) and is even more dog slow.

Actual 3rd party plug-ins that would be a big WOW in LW are :

Vertibevel - I love making MAX users drool over this one.
DI's Power Tools - very good for quick selections and the bridge tool.
UME-Bend - Incredible control
UME-Clone - Incredible options.
RT-Smooth-Scale - A must for smoothing out those bandsaw cuts.
ATS-C-plane - An arbitory construction plane (like in acad).
Qem-Loss3 - Now that normal mapping is with us we need a poly reduction tool that can preserve UV maps.
UV-Extrude-Mapper - Not a real plug-in, but I could really do with a plug-in that would let me UV map a rail extrude and keep all the segments the right length. At the momment the "Create UV's" option on reail extrude and "UV Spider" make all the UV segments the same length, which is a major pain when they AREN'T the same length.

I would like to see a real symmetry fix.

So that when you use a third party plugin (or even some of NT's own) you don't have to delete half of the object and mirror it to get symmetry working again.

I couldn't find these on Flay. Did you mean c_bend and c_clone?

X-Dof perhaps?

Only plugin on my list that should be added to LW and isn't mentioned already is ASA Buffer Saver.

Good catch, Yep that's what I meant

In Modeler however they are labeled as UME_c-bend and UME_c-clone.

I agree with the first posts:

- Support for 3rd party renderer :buttrock:
- Visual expression system (amelie)
- bevel++
- patch it

and
- hd instance or something similar
- xdof

Think that if I could ask I would ask for
full G2 and Polk collection from Worley labs.:love:

then there are a lot of plugs like
vertibevel, edge tools, patch it, etc, ( expecially etc.)
that I wish to have too...:buttrock:

yeah, definitely an instancing plug, like HD's, and x-dof would be sweet, too, and, of course, either verti-bevel or rounder (which is just pure sweetness for only 40 bucks) . . .

1. Instancing
2. proper psd export
3. proper simmetrytools in Modeler AND Layout
4. full integrated hair

Actually i could think of dozens more, but these are the most important for me.

Im going to say all of them but since I cant...
My current favorite plugin is Shift Spline Transform.
Ive been able to rig a face with splines in a very short time and animate it. Very very cool! :)

here are a few that i wouldnt mind seeing in V8

- Unreal Extreme
- Keytrack (good chance this could be in) :drool:
- Rounder or equivelant
- Mirror weight maps????

And all the others you guys have said!!!

OK that sounds cool where do i get it ? where ..... where !:applause:

what really needs to be done is some readme's and tutorials on how to uses them.
and afew interface designs to bring these plugin out in the open

EG - selection sets & selecting weight maps in modeler are so deep in there you really have to redo the interface just to uses in everyday work a very important part of the program not really used due to the default interface layout.

Some japanese plugins make my head spin. All the talk about how limiting LWs architecture supposedly is, and these guys make free plugs that beat the hell out of any integrated maya function, LOL.

Of course it's tempting to mention any number of 3rd party products which would probably be too expensive to expect them to be able to bundle (even if the owners were willing):

* Any of Evasion Studio's rendering "add ons";
* DeepPaint 3D LW Edition;

But... I'd say Richard Brak's Rounder would at least give modelers something new. DStorm's UVEdit Pro also looks promising, but maybe including that is already in the works.

NONE? How bout making the ones already included fully interactive (if not already) and make sure all of them work correctly (as in smooth shift NOT losing UV's, or extrude not leaving the orignal poly, etc etc....)

That Shift page says "Thank You For Your Access" :applause:
Classic translation there....

I love and have loved using Shadow Designer. I never hear it mentioned, everyone talks about using arrays of area lights to get soft shadows and simulate GI (myself included) but all of it becomes kind of moot when you have SD2. The more I play with it, the more I think it's something NT could grab up, throw into LW[8], and wow the competition with the results users could get (the render times are great, btw).

More Translators for CAD formats ,, example the .dwg format from Autocad, also, Architectrual Desktop, and so on and so on

With a projected 27% growth in CAD 3D related fields as apposed to 3% in traditional 3d and animation to me it would make sense to try and capture some of the market in CAD related industries, people who would love to be able to translate into LW and use its Radiosity and HDRI ability to generate Vizualizations.

My most used plugins for Modeler (thus I list them for inclusion in LW8) are:

1. Fi's OExtender: (http://www.infoseek.livedoor.com/~f_ichikawa/) Awesome. Works with symmetry, sub-patch mode, and automatically selects edges to extend.

2. Extend&PPSnap / SymmetryExtend&PPSnap: (http://thespread.ghostoutpost.com/) Kind of an extender variation that speeds up modelling alot.

3. 3DD-PointRailSelector: (http://www.3d-drawing.com/plugins/plugins.html) Bandsaw selection for points.

A few others: Mirror Morph, Mirror UV Map, Skelegon Editor

You arent kidding! I have done some stuff with this plugin that blows me away. Ive been able to rig a face with splines and weight maps and do facial deformations in realtime. :)
