I'm just wondering how/if you can have C4D start up with certain settings. For example how would I have C4D start up with one or more render settings? (I almost never start off with an unaliased 320x200 render, I'd like to start with at least a 800x600 render with "best" AA settings etc.)

well i presume you know you got layout setting you can do
window>layout etc etc.

version 8: but for the render settings you need make settings then save file as template.c4d and save in application path eg
cinema_4d_r8 directory.
pg 104 of manual will tell you about the various files.
workflow initialization files

Thanks for the page reference! I remembered seeing it somewhere...of course when I first got C4D and wasn't looking for that "silly" workflow stuff...now that I'm digging around, I'm growing steadily more impressed with C4D (and feeling steadily sillier as I discover "obvious" tricks...)

Here's a quote from p.103 of the manual:

"When you create a new file (main menu File > New), CINEMA 4D checks its root folder for a file called ‘new.c4d’. If the file is present, its settings are loaded and used as default values. For example, to activate antialiasing permanently, create a new file, change the values in the Render Settings accordingly, then save the file into the same folder as the CINEMA 4D program under the filename ‘new’ (the ‘.c4d’ file extension is appended automatically)."

Lol, straight from the manual "..(e.g. several different render settings).."

Thanks again!
