CGTalk - Modelling a tree?

Hi, i am trying to model a somewhat realistic Christmas tree (in Maya) however, i am having a hard time finding tutorials/techniques to achieve this. Could someone tell me how to achieve this/point me in the right direction?

There's a couple different examples of pines in maya's paintFX you could modify to your liking...

I'd be pretty hesitant to try making one from scratch - unless your going for a really stylized or cartoony look.
