Really, you use the same skills painting in Photoshop that you do painting in traditional media. You have to understand how colors mix, contrast, harmonize - how different materials behave. Photoshop does a good job of emulating the way traditional materials work. You can learn how to paint by reading up some on traditional media and color theory. Sounds dull maybe - but the best artists out there know about these things. There's no secret or short cut to it.
The drawing's very nice....it deserves to be fleshed out! - maybe try finding some books on either oil/watercolor painting or the use of pastels and color usage. That will set you on the right path to digital painting excellence! Good luck!

Very nice outlines, I must say!
A tip I can give if you don't have time to get into the books about coloring is to take a photo of a face that have nice colors. Scan it and pick three or four colors from it and make these the base for you coloring. Paint the whole portrait in only these few colors at first, then add more shades along the way!
:)
thank you so much everyone! I actually copied the face from a picture, but I cant paint because the colors are confusing (just me I guess).I think I'll try my best at it.thank you danne_n,B_Munchausen,everyone.:wavey: :) :scream:
I'll update as soon as I get a good color job (might take a while)

In my Opinion, The first thing after the line drawing, is to be able to recognise color.
Now its very easy to Pick up the colors with the eyedropper from a scanned Image. But I would advise against it.Because what that does is make you lazy and you fail to learn a very important lesson in art... that is hue recognition.
you should train your eye to "see" color. And manually look at a photograph and pick up a color from the color pallette. This will help in long run.
The first thing to do is to select and identify the Base color. Now the base color is the real color of an object.Without any Highlights, reflected lights and shadows.
E.g. The color of the sky is blue.Thats it. just blue. All the other gradations you see are the result of Accent and Tone{Highlight and shadow}.
Put the layer of line drawing on Multiply mode and start painting on seperate layers below it.
Identify that Base color and paint it flat with a normal brush at 100% opacity.Cover all the areas you think the color should apply to.In your case all the skin.
Then you can start adding in the shadows and Highlights depending on the direction of light.Do this with a fairly large brush maybe with 50% opacity, and maybe with a soft brush..Depends on your convenience... you'll learn as you go along.Do not, at this stage pay a lot of attention to detail.
After you define areas of Highlights and shadows,You can go into finer details and subsequently finish with a separate background layer for added value.
Hope this helps.
thank you everyone.such informative information.I did three hours of paint on this update,I'll try to add more colors tomorrow. So far I've only put some colors to get a basic form of the face. The colors are still soft and lack detail,I'm experimenting on shadows, the image that I'm going for is the blonde girl, the other is a mixture of shadow layer to paint over.I want to make the image as realistic as posible, but at this stage its hard to be sure if that'll happen:shrug:
sorry about the 20k size:scream:
EDIT:- link on new post below
the color swatch I used,I dont know how to blend the colors,I did'nt use smudge tool,I just used varying opacity brushes. Is there another way to blend colors?
kinda sad cause my thred is kinda empty,...maybe I'm not famous, well I'm not! but hell heres an update anyhow:shrug:

As for your drawing, it's looking great. Though, of course, there is still some work to be done in refining, and sharpening, areas
