Use reactor for the pool
spacewarp -> reactor -> water
select the pool as the landscape.
create a plane and apply water to it.(bind to spacewarp)
make the ball and put it in a rigid body collection, give it some mass.
simulate.
Or, you can assign a noise controller to the ball and adjust the value till it looks like it's drifting.
Try it(hope this helps)

if you wanna drop a ball into water, Reactor is a good way. And if you wanna the ball move with the water. use the Conform Space Warps. it's created for this! !

I have always had a little trouble using the conform space warp. I tried using it like it says in the help files but cannot get good results. If I add the select mesh modifier above the item and turn on Use Selected Verticies then only the selected verts move rest will stay still causing the object to deform. If I do not use the use selected verticies the object will scale it's self in unwanted ways.
