Hi everybody,

For the last couple of months I have been working on procedural rigging, and I have made a little reel about it. I was just wondering if anyone could spare any thoughts on it. I just wanted to see if I am going in the right direction on how to present this.

For my finished reel I was thinking of also adding some other stuff, such as perhaps a manual rig of biped and facial animation. However I am also drawn to doing some mechanical rigging/vehicle rigging and quadrupeds...So many possibilities :) Or is there perhaps some must-haves on a rigging reel? Any comments would be very welcome!

Showreel Breakdown

00.07 Features Intro
00.11 Auto Rigger
Demonstration of how Auto Rigger is used. It is shown how placeholders are used to determine the positioning of the joints.
00.40 Dynamic Parenting/Space Switching
Demonstration of Space Switching which can be used on any control. Switching is done in changing an attibute in the channelbox.
01.30 IK/FK Switching for Arms
Demonstration of no-pop IK/FK Switching which can be used on the fly during animation.
02.06 IK/FK Spine
Demonstration of FK/IK Spine, similar to the one taught by Jason Schleifer.

Well if your plan is to make a rigging reel I would suggest adding other rigs as well, one rig for the entire reel might not be enough,

Of course if you show another character rigged with your script that doesn't count as it's the same rig ;)

Another thing is your explanation texts, their position should be more consistent, they are all over the place, like @2.22 there is 3 texts at different locations, I think it would look nicer if the text explanation would always be a the same location so the viewer knows where to look for explanations.

Your procedural rigging script is nice and would belong in a nice rigging reel, as long as it's not alone :wavey: like you could add a cartonny face rig or a mechanical rig as you were saying.

Keep up the good work.

As Paul Neale told me some months ago, remember to speed up things, like rotating and manipulating in the viewport. It's kind of boring seeing someone posing a character in real-time, and the time you save can be used to show some other stuff :)

By the way, I guess non-popping IK/FK snap is kind of the minimum you can ask for a rig, so maybe spending half a minute for this is not the best idea. Be careful with the timing and pacing (as I wasn't on mine!) :)

Good luck!

Thank you for the advise. I will work on my timing, and I will hopefully have some more rigs in a while to make a proper showreel. I will also have a look at improving the descriptions too.

Thank you again for you comments and encouragement. I hope I can put up an update soon! :)
