Ok, so my copy of BodyPaint2 arrived today. I got home from
work, installed the CinemaR8.2 update, and then installed BP2.

The only thing is that the only BodyPaint manual that I was able
to find is the one for BP1. I can find no videos, no PDF manual...
nothing. Where should I be looking for this stuff?

D'oh... if anyone from Maxon is reading this, the registraiton page
is down...

I would guess that you are one of those early birds. You'll get those stuff when the final version is released and shipped to you.

Early birds?

I posted the same question a while back when I received BP2. I called maxon (Rafi) and she said the video tutorials will ship with the manuals when they are ready. Not sure what happens if you ordered BP2 without the manual.

My thread (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79380&highlight=BP2+tutorials)

You can find a BP2 reference manual on the support/documentation area of Maxon's site. Look at the bottom of the documentation page for BP2.

Hope this helps...

Manuals and documentation cds will be shipped to you as soon as they become available. In the meantime, please refer to the online documentation. Our apologies for the inconvenience.

The registration form seems to be working. If you continue to experience problems, send me a private message.

US/Can customers will receive the documentation cd including the video tutorials. I can't comment directly on other regions.

The video tutorials + PDF's is why I didn't order the printed
manuals... I'm running out of storage space for the bizillion and a
half printed manuals that I already have :)

Thanks for the replies, Rick!

This information should really be included in the package to avoid confusion.

You should see my basement... all I can say is "Ay Carumba!!!"

I've even started tossing the boxes upon receipt, because of the
space that they take up... though I have to admit that they can
be useful; I have enough boxes from Cinema R8 alone to build a
small desk, I think. :/

Just made my order for the Studio Bundle and Rafi told me that the manual and documentation CD for BP R2 will be available next week.

Cool... in the meantime, not having the docs and stuff isn't
causing me any harm, I was just all excited about it. :)

But I have some other stuff to work on in the meantime, like trying
to make up for the 2 months of rain that consumed most of the
spring and summer outdoor volleyball season :D

I downloaded the pdf version of the manual. In my opinion, if you have C4D8, you don't need a printed version as more than half of the information can be found in the C4D8 manual. Besides: some of the pages are really better in full colour, so it's best to print these yourself.

In fact: when you want to install Bodypaint as a module, the manual leaves you in the cold as there is not one alinea that gives you specific information like, for instance, do you have to uninstall BP1, and if so: are there files you need to keep apart and place into BP2? I know: asking this means that I can foresee the answer, but there may be other questions too. For people using Max, Maya etc, this manual is a must. But for C4D users, and then certainly people who will buy their first version, something is lacking.

A bit nitpicking: the illustration of "step3" on page 103 in the "First Steps" chapter is another copy of the one of "step2".

Always end with some positive note: BP2 looks like a must-have!

It's Sep. 5th 2003
I guess I was one of those unfortunate early bird; I ordered Bodypaint R2 and They sent me this gigantic box with a SINGLE cd in it. No tutorials read-along book, no extra- tutorial cd and not even a installation instruction. But it doesn't end there, apparently my Bodypaint R2 is a early verion and exchange plugins with Maya doesn't work(I don't use C4d)
Maxon promised to send me that tutorials when it's ready(so it's not ready yet as of today) and the updated version cd which fixed problem with Maya. Until they do so, I am not able to use BPr2 yet.
It's been frustrating three weeks because of this.
I'm dissapointed with Maxon at the moment.

I know it seems frustrating, but basically earlybird is a fancy term for pre-release software. We had that with C4D 8. In a sense it is great cause you get your hands on the software to mess with before most people, but the caveat is that there might be a few bugs and you have to wait for the manuals and final release cds. I know it is hard to be patient especially when you have work to do. I found my manuals took a while to arrive, but after they came I forgot about the delay.

Should go out next week. Thanks for your patience.

Speaking of BP2, any of you guys who are Germany might check out the current issue of Creative Live magazine. I've got a tutorial in there covering the BP2 paint job on my Mini model. The model is also on the CD--except they cut the wheels and interior to reduce the file size.

Hi Adam,

I bought the mag last week and itīs great. A lot of CGTalk guys contribute: Pupi is on the cover, Fabian has a nice article on Morph targets, Holger Schoemann (forgot his nick here- holle?) has an article on HDRI and of course your VERY nice BP tutorial. Plus a few other Cinema related articles, so this first issue of the mag is really packed with C4D stuff.
Will you continue doing articles for them or was it a one timer?

Thanks Pit. I sort of doubt I'll do other articles for them, since I don't speak or write German. That's a real shame, because the magazine does look excellent and I can't read a word of it! Credit for the article placement and translation goes to Maxon's Harald Schneider.

Hi Tofu,

Sorry to have to read about your misfortune.

In case your Bodypaint2 can be installed and is working, you can download the manual and the addendum on the plugins for maya etc from

http://www.maxon.de/index_e.html

choose Support>Documentation. This, at least gives you a lot to read.

When your BP is working, then, from the same page, go to Resources. You find links to many, many models done in c4d format.
With these in Bodypaint, you will be able to try out the app.
I can well understand that c4d files are unfamiliar, but the workflow in BP is the same.

You may want to try this out? Hey: I understand you're disappointed, but really: Maxon is without any doubt the most helpful software manufacturer I know of. Perhaps the great success of Cinema4D and BP explains that they cannot follow because the crew is a bit small?
