i have about 2000 objects that i want to collapse into one, but attaching them together just locks up the computer. is there a better way?

better try postproduction ;)
Combining them WILL take a long time (and may look like its frozen the computer)
If not, try combining a few at a time; say 100 or a random selection full, then again to another 100, then combine the 2 sets of 100, etc.

if you want to move together like 2k rocks or something why not just group them.

6000 cornflakes... but who's counting :)
the thing is, that loading the scene takes forever when they're not collapsed
i did find my problem though! the objects where instances placed on particles... when i made dublicates instead, and deleted history, it was done in 30 seconds or so
