View Full Version : I'm SO screwed! Is there Hope?!

All,

I think I may have just backed myself into a corner and would like any advice even just if someone tells me there is hope!

I am the modeler and rigger in a short. My main character was rigged in August and has been used to animate an Animatic and the animation for the past 2 months. Unfortunately, I have backed myself into a situation I should have foreseen.

While our character animators are animating I have been updating the rig and making changes to the characters geometry in Zbrush... The rig updates are going fine.

Somehow I had it in my brain that any changes I made to the geometry in things like arm proportion I could move the rigs bones and controls to adjust (still leaving the animation intact..)

BlendShapes would be fine on the geometry. But the issue I am having is the characters arms, and fingers need to now be in a new position, but still inherit all the animation work my animators have done...

My Question:

If I recreate a new rig with all the exact same names for the bones, constraints, and controllers with ALL of the same relationships will my animator's animations still be able to be used? If not, am I missing something big on how I can work around this issue.

Either way please respond...

Thanks you my friends.

Zeb

Essentially if you keep what the animators animation intact, everything should be fine. It's when the control handles or the reference space they work in change that causes major headaches.

yup there is. Your worst case scenario is to adjust the rig in a new file and transfer animation using a simple script.

Thanks Guys!

Flash: Can you point me in the direction of this Holy Script you speak of?

Thanks!

You can either write on your own which fits your need or you can explor Zoo Scripts by Hamish.

if the rigs were reference, shouldn't be such a big deal but must be exactly how u had it before

Hey guys! Thanks for your support! The new rig works fine with the old animation! Only real problem is that the new model's version has shorter arms so the animators have to tweak animation that are reaching for objects!

Thanks for the sigh of relief!

Best,

Zeb
