Here is a shot from our in-house project of a SNOWTROOPER BATTLE (http://scifi3d.theforce.net/details.asp?cat=details&key=508&intGenreID=10&intCatID=22) . It's from the animation.. that I may release later.

Here's the image tho. http://scifi3d.theforce.net/downloads/Star_Wars/SWImages/snowtrooper.jpg. Poor Steve I put thru several lighting changes. That seems to be the main thing that gets the most varying opinions on. But I swore I wouldn't ask him to change it anymore. There is a 10-second animation to this but it's got many layers and a Combustion post-processing file to do also. We want to do another shot using these models but in a secret location. If anybody is interested email me at zoo@mpinet.net with a URL or something with samples of your work. Visit the site to see what we're up to.

P.S. Don't forget to vote for the thread. I'll add a higher rez image later for you guys looking for a kool desktop background. And maybe the animation later too.

This looks very cool but something about the materials/textures on the snow , pipes and troopers themselves make them have a plastic look, and wouldn't the gun have some snow or effected byt he environment as its too clean. Maybe the vibration keeps the snow off but this looks like a windy environment so wind wear should maybe show as. What woind wera looks like...Dont ask me. lol.

No its pretty good, Just my opinion about the plastic look of some materials is all.

I think I may have rendered it wrong or something. It's a pretty complex scene. I asked Steve to visit here and offer explanations and any other variations he may have. I tried to get a frame with some explosions or something in it too.

It has something stylistic, quite like a painting. I like the fact that something's happening, but that may lie in the nature of animation stills ;-)

I think it would look more convincing and snowy if the crate and the barrel actually sank into the snow a bit. And have some snow blown up onto the sides of both.

Yea... I think that's something some people misunderstand. It's a stylistic realism. It's not meant to be photo-real. We have literally dozens of other shots done by different people and they all need to look like they go together to some degree. PLus.. we'd probably never get finished if we went for photo-realism.

But I do agree the Eweb gun looks a bit too clean. BUT it just came out of a box. It's not gonna have snow all over it. I think the gun is missing a specular map that was supposed to be used in Combustion.

I never thought about the sharp edges around the gear. I've always seen animation tests of this... and they were probably compressed in a way that it wasn't noticable. BUT.. yes. This is part of a 10-second animation clip.

I think sinking the crate and e-web in is fair comment, I doubt it would be that windy in there, since it's part of the tunnels, but some of the textures on the e-web could be tweaked.

To be honest, Zoo has the files, so if anyone wants to change aspects of it they're welcome to do so, I've just been staring at it for so long, I've got too close to it, and it would probably be better sorted out by a fresh pair of eyes.

Right now I'm trying to fix a leak in the flat, so sorting this out is waaaayyyyy down my list of things to do.

Yea. I have all the files... so if anybody is interested drop us a line. Scenes are done in MAX 5. There's not much to do on this but what we're looking for is somebody to do shots involving these fully rigged snowtroopers and an ATAT. I don't want to divulge anymore b/c it's secret and will actually end up being one of the koolest shots we have.

As the doors say at Disney Studios here in Orlando, Florida..

"No looky loo". :shame:
