yo. Is there a way to select a skinned mesh and duplicate it so that you get a duplicate of it, but in its bind pose?

I know that I can select the skeleton and use the go to bind pose option, but I worry that will break the rig. Is there a mel script that will duplicate a mesh in bind pose or an option inside of maya?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

turn off all the Inputs under the channel box/layer editor.

in other words select your mesh, look for the 'skinCluster' under the INNPUTS and turn it off by setting the 'envelope' value of 1 to 0. Also do the same for all the other defomations, like blendshapes...

Then you can duplicate your mesh, and go back and turn on all the inputs...skinClusters, blendShapes etc. on your rigged character by setting the envelopes back to 1.
