View Full Version : Can't make a smooth transition solid

Dear colleagues,

I am new to modelling and am using Cobalt to draw an electric bass. The junction between the body and the "arm" is giving me trouble. I always end up with acute lines.

The problem seems to be convert a rectangle into a semi circle. I need to start with a rectangle, it's an important part of the body.

Any tips?

I am not familiar with cobalt, but those curves that are causing sharp edges should be able to get smoothed with an option somewhere in the loft. Let us know how that works out.

I came to a solution suggested by a friend. Cobalt is great but is kind of "do it yourself" with not so many options that facilitate problems like that. It is very "CADie" and mathematical.

What I had to do was to soften the two lower ends of the rectangle, replacing the acute lines joint with 1 mm arcs. So Cobalt does not have a hard time transitioning curves into other curves.

The downside is that the whole piece has changed because of that two arcs. I preferred the rectangle, but decided that the two arcs would be incorporated to the whole piece design. Better than having those old lines.
