View Full Version : Neeed help: Tell us your DSF TALE
RobertoOrtiz 11-16-2009, 01:50 PM Guys, I am in the middle of some negotiations, and I might be able to get some
benefits for the DSF members (no promises).
But I need your help,
Tell us your DSF tale.
Name:
How long you have been sketching with us?:
And How the forum has helped you:
looking forward to your tale.

I've been with DSF about a year now. I try to participate at least once a week.
DSF has greatly helped me, especially those days when I sit in front of my tablet craving to draw something but I can't come up with anything other than FanArt.
DSF has really broadened my horizons as an artist by encouraging me to strive to work faster, explore new ways of drawing, new subjects, etc. I have noticed my art improving exponentially since I started actively participating in DSF.

DSF is very helpful for me. Looking at the first sketch and the last one I can say that it really really helped me to improve my skills!

I've been here since February. Didn't do much during the summer because I got kind of busy, but now I am back.
I am trying to get better at digital art, so I have been using the sketch forum as a place to experiment. A lot of times I try out different brushes on these sketches. Sometimes the drawings fail because I tried something that wasn't working. I have also been drawing out of my head with no reference material most of the time because I would like to be better at that. A lot of my drawings have not been very good, but it has been a good learning experience.

i've been here since july 2004. i got my first tablet that year and joined DSF right away. most of my posts on this site are pretty much in DSF and a good chunk of my total drawings lately are for DSF otherwise i don't really draw much. without dsf i wouldn't have as much artwork as i have nor would i have the interest. so if anything this forum keeps me interested and that's the most important thing for me.

been here for a year now and i hope i'll be here for a good while
i've learned sooooo much about digital painting during this year. thanx to other artist here i'm testing pretty much everything i see. different styles, different solutions. always testing
so if some of you see me trying to mimic your style for a while then you know i'm trying to unserstand your workflow :arteest:
since i mostly work with layouts i haven't had a chance to test my newly gathered knowledge but i'll get a chance to do so
also, huge thanx to PELENG, Daw, Wexter and all others that has been here during my time. without you i wouldn't have learned so much and DSF just wouldn't be the same
cheers!

I started cgtalk on the daily sketch forum. I hadn't drawn for 15 years. It was a great place to start back drawing - disarming supportive, and some serious talent showed up along the way: Bobby Chiu. Goro, Linda Bergkvist, and so many more. A great non threatening environment with lots of support and tremendous artists to look up to - whats not to like. I have been away from DSF for quite some time, but really think is would be valuable to get back into it. (I wonder how many careers started in this forum?)

I'm one of the newer members and I joined dsf since march (this year).
The timelimit is the most challenging part to me. The training speeds up my drawing-progress.
Rough Sketching (and just looking at the other great entries) has really helped me understanding different drawing-styles and workflows.

About a year
Unfortunately, I haven't been very active (drawing wise), but I definately follow the forum. I tried to challenge myself to doing the daily drawings at the beginning of the year, but battled with having no confidence in my drawings; and eventually puttered out.
I love the forum, though, and always pop in to see what everyone is doing. I definately see how others have evolved, and it gives me some hope, so hopefully I'll get myself in gear and turn this into a habit. ;)

More than a year- inactive recently due to PC failure, saving up and replacing it soon tho. I enjoy sharing and seeing others works- the crits help ALOT and helps you stay creative even during droughts or mental blocks! I've been mostly sketching on hardcopies these days due to the PC taking a dump on me and it's given me an idea for DSF that maybe sometimes instead of just a word or phrase to draw from that maybe we could have an uploaded photo to still life from? Not that I can't get my own resources but it's amazing sometimes the creative differences we have from one portrait or still life. Just a thought.

I've been here for a few years, I think, and it has really treated me well. It's funny, but when I started here I was a graphic designer working in an ad agency and now I do illustration as a fulltime gig and teach a painting class at our local museum during the evenings. I had no idea I would be where I'm at today, a few years ago. It has definitely been a nice ride and a big part of that I owe to Roberto's thread. Every artist has to invest a lot of mileage to improve and the DSF offers a way to accumulate those miles in a fun and creative fashion.

...i started posting here five (nearly six) years ago, just when I bought my first Wacom Graphire. Sketching here was a kind of very effective stress-relieving therapy, as I was going through some really hard times then. It worked fantastic, my skills improved, i had great fun (oh those multipage avatar wars...). Then the count of my submisions decreased rapidly as i got more 'cad-desing' than 'illustrating' job, and all the offline stuff in life became more time-consuming than I thought :/
Recently i started drawing again, but more in a 'draw-draw-clear layer' manner, sometimes i even search for inspiration in DSG topics, but i havent regained enough confidence to start posting again. But i'm working on it (so beware) :)

I've lurked here for many years. I've tried a few but never posted anything because my 2D skills are complete rubbish. :banghead:

But Wolf- that's the beauty of this forum- you can post to get the crits and learn! I'm a much better 2d artist in other media such as paint/pencil etc than Computer but I enjoy it! There are a lot of advantages to both
