View Full Version : riggin problem - stretchy bones - help desperately needed

Hello,

I wonder if anyone knows a solution to my problem:

I’ve got a character. It needs to have a stretchy spine. One for the top half of the body and one for the bottom (see pictures below).
I can make the bones stretch as I want (see pictures) with a position constraint for each bone attached to a point helper. Then those helpers are attached to a single spline object on the right side, with another position constraint.

Works great.

But, only up until I rotate the character as a whole, with the big circular control object around the body. Then it falls apart – (see picture). I’ve tried a few different ways to solve it but no joy. Does anyone know a better way of making this happen? Any help would be greatly appreciated…I desperately need to solve this problem – I don’t mind starting from scratch if someone knows of a better way!

Cheers

Your bones only have position constraints on these dummies hun ? That's why they are not orienting themselves when you rotate the character : each bone needs to have a look-at to the dummy above it.

You can also check Paul Neale's DVD (https://www.cg-academy.net/es_catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_40&products_id=38&osCsid=kobntq0qadbv74jdofr6gkooc5ls26ls) which has this specific setup in it.

Hello,

Thanks so much for replying. I really apreciate it. I've tried the look-at constraint too, but i must have been doing it wrong some how. I've been looking at the Paul Neale DVDs, well, the first 3 anyway, but couldn't remember seeing this specific set up... do you know if it's in the 4th DVD about facial rigging (the one i don't have)? ...if so I'll buy it today. Thanks again. Really nice of you to reply.
