View Full Version : Animation: FFD points linked to a dummy?

Anyone know if there's an easy way to link selected Control Points of an FFD modifier to a dummy object? I'd like to control the rotation axis of the points during animation...

You can do it if you use a FFD Spacewarp instead. Bind the object to FFD spacewarp. Then in the modifier select the control point and select linked Xform. Then pick control object under the linked x-form and select the Dummy object. And this is what i think you are trying to achieve. Hope this makes sense and helps you.

It does, thank you!

Unfortunately I need the modifier-based FFD because this works in object space. I have the object copied as a bunch of instances in the scene, using different orientations for each. Too bad the world-space FFD ignores their local transforms...

I was thinking maybe I could do some kind of linking of controllers via the Track View, but I just can't seem to piece it together...

I though the another way is to set your dummies postion controller to Bezier position. This is so that the point controllers and the dommy have the same parameters inputs. Then using the parameter wire dialog box link the dummy to the control points. The connection arrow must face from the dummy to the control point then click connect. You might find it needs alittle tweaking.

oops i forgot to add that you will need to animate the FDD modifier points so that they will appear in the track view. Sorry.

Thanks renato! That's the workflow I was looking for... time to read up on parameter wiring I guess...
