Hey raffael3d, you are going to receive a thousand opinions on this, so I am not going to speculate on which 1 is best. I must say however, many or most of the renderers do have trial versions, so why not download a few and decide for yourself. Brazil, v-ray, entropy, I'm sure there are others with free trials. Final render is another option(don't know if there is a trial of this 1), I use it and like it, others don't care for it, I also use Brazil, hey it's free even if all the features aren't available, it still rocks.

I'd go for RenderMan. If you can a) afford it, and, last but not least b) understand it.
I haven't neither the first nor the last, but it still a) rocks, b) is cool) and c) you can do everthing with it. Really. Trust me.

thanks for the opinions and demonstrations, I just hoped somebody could really compare them :-)
well, I can't afford renderman, but mabye there is a free trial version (?) so I could check it out anyway.
But what always amazes me is that RenderMan seems not to support ray tracing, so how does it achieve accurate and natural results?
