Hi All

I faced a lot of problems while texturing this character. If anyone can help me out with this, i'd be greatful.
What i've done so far is....
Created a blend material.Took the material for tubes on the first slot and again a blend mat on the second slot.
Created UVW Map for tubes with a planner mapping.Gave it a map channel no. and used texporter to paint a mask. But that mask is not good enough as it is spreading out at both ends and on some part of head.
On the blend in the second slot i again want to use one more mask for the front and back side of the face but somhow i'm not getting it right!!!!
I would like to have some ideas on how to put mats on this character, particularly how can i blend a mat on the tube with that on the rest of the face..

and oh....i use 3dsmax 5

Thanks all

Sandy

Yes, this is a difficult shape to create good UVs for.

Neil Blevins has a decent tutorial that covers something similar.

Oh, it also would help save a lot of time if you create the UVs for the low-res model, instead of the NURMed one. Less UVs to edit...

ya i read that tut by Neil but that wont go for this shape and unknowingly i was following that only....i'm workin on the low poly structure only...any further ideas!!!!
I'll try Multi/Sub today but dont really understand how to deal with seams!!

Keep texture density the same across the seam (if you use a checker pattern, keep the checkers the same size on both sides). This makes it much easier to paint out the seams.

Use a 3D paint program, if you can afford it. Helps fix seams very quickly.

If you can't afford one, basically you will need to carefully paint each seam, bit by bit, in your painting program while updating the 3D view.

Maybe this tutorial might help.
