Hey guys,

i'm looking to find a way to doing this strand trails ( like in this Xsi ice video http://www.vimeo.com/2893001) in maya. Actually i get some result with particule, emiting particule along a curve flow. But i just get to much particules to get a fine and smooth trails. Does someone know a better way, or just some tips, if i'm on the right direction with this workflow.

There are lots of ways to do it in Maya (paint effects, curves, extrusions, etc) but since you've already set something up with particles you could search for particles to curve mel script that will generate curves for you along the path that the particles follow.

Then you could either attach a pfx brush to the curves and render them in maya sw or convert them to poly and render in mr or simply attach a renderman shader to the curves and render in renderman for maya or 3delight.

The glow could be controlled in post.
