Nice job! Loved the bridge breakdowns and street pan down. Are the shots personal projects or from professional works?

Looks like most of it is from the show Supernatural

which, by the way is one of my favorite shows.

Amazing reels man. Hats off to you for helping my thursday nights more enjoyable :D

Nice work Dan. I am just getting into Supernatural and it is quite a good show. Looks like you get to work on some fun shots!

the effects were really well done I liked knife through the throught scene the best. I thought the digital double for the guy that got hit by the car was a little obvious but then again would I think the same if I didn't watch the breakdown first:curious:

Great work!

Haha great reel, being a fan of Supernatural, watching it the other night, I found myself wondering who was doing the work on it. Cheers, really well done, you've definitely bumped it up a notch for series effects :)

Hey everyone. Just wanted to say thanks for checking out my reel!

Yea, most of the shots are from the Warner Brothers show Supernatural, where I have been working at for the last 4 seasons. It's a small in house VFX facility so all the artists really get a chance to work on a large variety of shots. Which i find keeps the work interesting.

Our main comp app is After Effects. But we do use a few other programs for more specific work. Most of our 3D tracking is done in Boujou, and our morph shots are done in a little program called Elastic Reality.

Anyway, thanks again to everyone for the comments!

I must say i love the series u worked on, and i noticed the vfx, i know how hard is to work under pressure and i know u did not had much time and u wish to polish it and stuff, for tv series, the effects are more than good.

Good luck in the future i hope u get work for the big movies.

Some pretty cool shots there, I especially like the guy dissolving in to liquid.

Like Aliosa suggested, a couple shots look a bit unpolished, most notably the church (?) matte painting where the shading looks a bit dodgy on the pillars, and the bridge, where the texture of the road seems to lack a bit of detail.

That being said, very well presented :)

Hey nice reel. And thanks for the phone number. Now I'll call you when I need to learn how to use any of those programs and stuff. (I'm j/k)

The only thing that confuses me about a lot of the reels coming out nowadays is that you don't know who did what.. I noticed Shaun Roth is taking credit for some of those same shots.. So who did what?

Hey JookBoxer,

Yea Shaun and I collaborated on a number of shots. He is our very talented lead 3D artist here at Supernatural. I was responsible for all of the compositing work done on all the shots on my demo reel.

Here is a link to my breakdown sheet pdf file that outlines what was done for each shot. Hopefully that will clarify.

Breakdown_Sheet.pdf (http://8023673694613866789-a-1802744773732722657-s-sites.googlegroups.com/site/gamyrutabaga/dan/DanSchick_Breakdown_Sheet_2009_LARGE.pdf?attachauth=ANoY7cp_jOHUnlHjGHrUOWIVhL66TMddlwc3LS_N8tn80WdzUJ5sfnW8URBF4eFlJ1oSJrZ7XcD12Xq2apdLpiHDa-nNRmJvVJH8e7IgKXsrB8ErEhP9yZGYMrmfUlcox8bMbg8gaep_lPpZ8lr140iCzgc9D7vZeLRaJUjRBhjM9Fx68P2ixxGoPa5SPHLVF5laKgMicp6J-PvWFTeTdDqDb5us3UBCcVV9Gsyg4OpsrPiUx4K6spA%3D&attredirects=0)

And yea, it would be nice sometimes to have more time to polish shots, but unfortunately the TV deadlines are tight. Very tight.

Hey,

I can answer this. Dan is one of our senior compositors, and currently I am the 3d lead on the show. Dan is the best compositor I have had the privilege to work with, which is probably why so many of the shots on my reel, he worked on. He is an amazing artist.

I totally agree with you on knowing who did what, as we all work in team environments. Suffice to say, if any 3d was needed in some of those shots, I did, and then he made it look better, haha.

If you want to know in detail on what I did in my reel (since we share some shots), I did a breakdown sheet that can be viewed.
