View Full Version : Multiprocessing clear as mud

Been looking online for optimum settings for a mac 8core tower with 8GB ram.
I just cannot figure out what is the best thing to do, so many memory options for multiprocessing and little makes real sense. I have noticed that old cs3 projects with large scaling jobs render so slow now it is just embarrassing.

Any help?

I just cannot figure out what is the best thing to do,

Buy more RAM, use a RAID. Seriously, it's an utter waste to buy a machine with that kind of processor power and let it starve on I/O and memory throughput. Beyond that, I find the online help (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AfterEffects/9.0/WSDD65B476-971A-48e9-A5FD-D90E9A2B996E.html) covers the facts more than sufficiently and in your case that boils down to using 3 background processes at most, though, realistically, this will probably only be 2, since the oeprating system itself also needs RAM and not all 8GB are available to AE.
