View Full Version : Cactus spikes-- the easy way
Kaptain Kubrick 08-18-2003, 09:27 AM I'm modelling a little cactus character and was wanting to find an easy way of placing the spikes at each vertex point.
Thanks in advance

hi,
with Maya5.0, you can do that quickly with the extrude vertex command.

I made a cactus last week :)
Just model the man body then model a spike keep the poly's on the spike as low as possible.
Get the bonus games tool pack of the Alias site it has a great paint geometery script.
Use the paint geometery script and paint you spikes on you get a nice random spread.
Make sure you cactus has UV maps otherwise it won't paint to well and also make sure you freeze any transformations on both the spike and the cactus before you start.

check under
modify->script paint tool.
that is in every maya version and does paint geometry on another geometry..
be sure to have the object you paint on freezed in transformation and best have no history on it.. that script is really picky
cheers
