Just wondering though, since I'm at v. 8.5, if I can open my files in 10.5?

I noticed an alpha version just came out for mac os X, if I upgrade now, is it possible that I'll get a final version for os X?

Thanks for the info.

at this point in the year my advice is always the same: wait till january to do your upgrading it won't cost any more and you'll feel like you are getting more for your money.

8.5 models load in with no problems.

the osX version is alpha and has a long way to go in realistic terms I feel they will "release" it by say the end of the year. but it will have a pretty long alpha and beta cycle before most people will consider it useable.

Thanks for the reply Ob. I'm planning on doing my next short in A:M, and if I could import 8.5 models to the the next version, then I would wait and just spend these next 4 months modeling the characters/ environements. I use both Mac and PC, so that aint a big issue. I just hope v. 11 doesn't turn out like v. 9 :\

Thanks again,
George

grgeon,

I'm just up the road from you!

My advice (I'm guessing you are on a mac) is that you could continue modeling in 8.5, but texture and rig when the OSX version is in late Beta (I'm guessing in about 4-6 months it will be rock solid). Some of my 8.5 models textures still get kinda wonky when I bring them over to 10.5 and I have to do some tweaking.

If I hear good things about the ALpha of OSX AM, then I would think about converting a little quicker, since the modeling if usually what's nailed down the quickest in the bug cycle.

That's right. The subscription lasts from January to December, regardless of when you buy it. Sometimes, Hash will extend it a bit into January or even February of the following year, but not always.

I think that may be "old advice", I mean... really, what you want when you upgrade is a stable version, and early in the year is too soon to tell if that is the case.

Personally I don't intend to "upgrade blind" ever again and I'd say about this time of the year is the right time to check for user satisfaction and to use the program for a while and ideally make sure you get rid of any bugs that are crippling to your workflow by reporting them

I upgraded from 8.0 last month and models worked pretty well, although some procedurals were lost and other glitches ensued on import (Layers lost, material effectors causing crashes, camera position data moved, etc) I was told compatibility with 8.5 was the objective so you should have less problems than I had
