Ok seriously, Autodesk people please slow down with the releases of your softwares.

Can someone PLEASE help me figure out how to create a simple shadow pass like i used to in older Maya, but somehow nothing works right. I tried passes, contribution passes and etc and nothing works right.

I need to be able to render one layer of color with no shadows and the other with just black and white info for shadows.

please please please help me

I guess you probably figured this out by now, but I`ll post this anyway in case someone else stumbles upon this post! :)

You can still access some renderlayer presets in the attribute tab of the renderlayer. Some of the presets are by default overridden to Maya Software render, but you can easily change them to Mental Ray after you choose the preset you want to use. The shadow preset renders shadows to the alpha channel as in earlier versions of Maya.
