Anyone know if there is a proper procedure to disconnect/remove my eSATA external hard drive? The drive works fine through the eSATA cable. But it doesn't show the "safely remove hardware" tray icon when using it through the eSATA cable--although it shows it when using the USB cable. I don't want to lose or corrupt data by diconnecting it the wrong way. Any ideas?

BTW: I'm on Windows 7 x64 and this is the external drive and mobo that I have. I also have AHCI on.

If the icon to safely remove hardware doesn't show up (which it should) you can still disable the device in the device manager. Cheers!

if i use disable from device manager, will it be smart enough to finish writing to the disk first or will it be just as bad as powering it off?
