View Full Version : adding new c3d imports to existing rig & actor setup

Hi,

I'm working with motion capture optical data exported from Optitrack Arena as .c3d files. I've successfully applied this data to an actor in Motion Builder, using it to drive a merged character rig created in Maya.

My problem is this -
Importing additional c3d optical data from the same shoot to create additional takes in the same motion builder scene does not appear to drive the actor. I can see that it has imported as it appears in the drop menu under the timeline with the correct file info, but switching to it just causes the actor and rig to freeze.

Switching back to takes that were previously in the scene when the actor was set up seems fine, it's just that newly imorted files fail to drive the rig.

I see there are several settings upon importing a character: Create new / Merge etc. I've tried combinations of all of these to little effect.

I know there must be a way as, by chance, I got it working last week, but don't know how!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Found it!

In case anyone's interested, newly imported c3d's cause the merged character rig to revert to 'control rig' input controls. Going to the actor settings in the navigator and switching this to 'actor' gets things moving again just fine.

Also when importing, set the dialogue box options to 'merge' and leave the rest of the defaults.

Answered my own question, perhaps it'll be a good day after all!
