View Full Version : Grow Selection of Polygons/Faces at Specified Interval

Been looking for a script that allows a user in Edit Poly mode (having previously sliced horizontal 'ceiling' geometry numerous times) to select a single face and then specify an X and Y interval that will grow the selection across the adjoining faces in the X and Y directions at the spacing of the selected X and Y intervals.

The end result would be to arrive at a series of spaced panels in a building's ceiling (as separate material ID) for fluorescent lights. These spaced out panels would be assigned as emitters in a render engine such as Maxwell/FryRender. I know this could be done manually, but wondered how I would go about writing the script for this so that a floor's 'light panels' can be copied to other floors in the same building.

Each floor could then be turned on or off, or random selection of selected panel for rendering a realistic office building lit internally.

I have found random selection scripts that would do the job, but the idea would be to keep the selected panels aligned - hence the need for every 5th panel in the X and every 3rd panel in the Y direction to be selected. After all, fluorescent lights aren't installed into buildings in random positions. :)

Any ideas - much appreciated.
