This is a small project a group of us got together and created. It was done in about 4 weeks using Maya 4.5, Shake, Photoshop, Deep Paint 3D, Max 5 and Motion Builder.

The purpose of this project was to create a highly realistic battle scene for training/R&D purposes and also to be used as a 'pitch' towards a future project we were biding on.

* i was responsible for:
art direction/concept art/directing/modeling/texturing/lighting

comments/questions/feedback?

Hey thats some pretty exceptional stuff! I like the overall planning you put into this (i'm downloading the movie right now, i'll comment on it later).

I really like the modeling and texturing examples you showed. very cool stuff! Maybe you could render out a couple of hi res stills?

The still images that you have posted here don't give much detail, but my curiosity was piqued enough to go through your "making of"...
Real nice work, guys! :applause:
Now add some surround sound, maybe some music, and about ten more seconds of footage - you gotta let us see that ship crash!
I'm glad I checked it out!

thanks everyone for the feedback!

** as for the audio-- i am currently working on a version with sound fx, etc.. should have it ready to post soon

** as for the video/movie-- you can see the current version (without sound) at my web site, on the making of section.. but i'll list a 'direct link' to the movie (below).. you need the divx codec to view the movie..

** as for getting an fx industry job-- i landed a job with Sony Pictures Imageworks, in LA.. as a senior technical director.. i'm currently in production on an all-cg animated movie called the Polar Express.. due out November '04

I went through the making of, and I gotta tell you, that's some really impressive work. Every step of it.
We need MORE.

You kidding? That's the project I'm most excited about at the moment. From the creator of Forrest Gump, right?
I went all over the web looking for information about it. Everybody says it's going to be revolutionary, but there's nothing technical.

Can you tell us more about the tehcnical side of the project? If you're allowed, that is.

Really great work - you should put a direct link to the final video in your first post - so more people will watch it.
I loved your description of the production process - and the first mocap video with everybody runnning around like kungfu fighters ;)
Great character models you've got there - only some minor skinning issues at the shoulders - but that's no problem in the final scene.
Oh yeah - the video showed some black borders when the picture was shaking heavily - I guess the shaking was made in compositing - but that looks a little unprofessionell - if you know what I mean. Either render bigger or do it in 3d.
