View Full Version : Character & Environment: Dressed To Kill
Mentat7 08-17-2003, 03:32 PM Hello all!l Okay...so he isn't exactly "dressed" yet. :) I have been working on this off and on for the last nine days (in between I have been fighting my internet connection which seems to want to shut itself down all the time ) Anyway, here is a breakdown of what is what:
The body was started in Wings 3D (see the first post in this thread http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=011878&p= ) then imported in ZBrush and further modeled. The body texture was created using TextureMaster. The Head, Skulls, Rock Columns, and Teeth were all created and textured in ZBrush. The Floor is a fractal terrain created in C4D and the texture for it is the same texture used on the Rock Columns. The stony wall texture was a texture I had lying around on my hard drive (not sure where it came from). The Armor was all created in C4D using Point/Box Modeling. There is no texture on the Armor...it is a Simbiont DarkTree shader. Finally the image was rendered in C4D, exported to ZBrush where I did some 2D editing, then exported to Photoshop where final touch up was done.
So far the image is about 75% complete. I have several more things I am going to do, need to tweak the texture on the body/head, and add some more props...most likely straps for the armor pieces, some more bones to accompany the skulls, a weapon, maybe a small shield.....we shall see. Cheers y'all!

He is looking really good. Absolutely love the texturing and lighting, those nails look splendid:thumbsup: The rock formations are also cool though they seem to end abruptly. Great looking armor too but isn't the waist armor hanging a bit loose?
Great work, looking forward to the last 25%.:)

Hi mentat7..............:wavey:
I like him .Very burly thick tough looking guy.Just has this style that appeals to me.My only suggestions.................and these are only taste thoughts: I would add another toe to each foot. And tone the bicep size down just a touch.Stain the teeth, dirty them up a little too.Perhaps give the eyes a little more size along with the nose.
Ok really just some minor tweaks and taste issues, but all in all you have a very nice creation going here.I'll chec k up on him as you update.Keep the updates coming.

Hi Virtuoso :wavey: I am a big fan of your work!!
The toe thing got kind of out of hand.....the idea was to have a big stumpy appendage on the outside where there would normally be several toes and then one large big toe...didn't quite turn out that way and I'm not really happy about it. Unfortunately it is a high density mesh (which I created in ZBrush) around 120K polys and adding another toe at this time is practically out of the question...I may play with it to see what I can do to increase the mass of the toes a bit or maybe just make some boots and cover em. Same goes for the bicep...although I like the size of it. The teeth were actually much darker and dirtier looking....but being so small in the image they got lost on the face so I had to brighten them up a bit. The tiny eyes and nose were designed like that specifically to accentuate the size of the mouth. Thanks for your words of encouragement bud!

Hi again Mentat7................
Well what I mean is I think that if you pull the mouth area out just a little and raise the nose and eye area a little again it will all be more visible, add more depth.I think the eyes are essential in a characters overall makeup and feel/look.
Also the teeth should have a little more distance from the facial features. These really are nit-picks,not at all major points, but I think with these minor tweaks an already fine model could be even better overall.
All in all a very nice job.I look forward to more.

My first thought - critters :) Nice work I really like your
style. I have to agree with Virtuoso about the toes,
it makes the feet look a little duck-like.

Virtuoso: Ahhh......ok now I understand......that may be do-able after all......I will see what I can do with that. Thanks!
Bobtronic: duck-feet! lol! the sister-malady to toe-jam! :D

very cool model. I imagine him looking around and hit teeth getting in the way, hehe. I really like the way you've texured him and his environment. Except for the nasty brick texture in the very background, please do something with that. And I agree, the hair is awesome.
