Painting Instanced Objs (VT) (http://www.blendercookie.com/2009/02/18/painting-instanced-objects/)
Ok, I'm following the above video tutorial.
Everything is working except for 2 things:
1. My painted particles appear too far from the emitter.
Does anyone know what controls the distance between the particles and the emitter?
2. The particles are not placed in a way as if though they're following the shape of the emitter, in this case the sphere.
How can I get this done?

Prior to assigning the little ball to the emitter I made sure its pivot point was at the bottom of its mass (as explained in the tutorial), so that it would be placed making contact with the surface of the emitter. So much for that!

Thanks guys,

JDL

just place the orginal instance object at the center of the scene, use the shift+s

1- shift+c to center the cursor to the center of the scene
2- select the original instance object (the litle sphere in your case)
3- shift+s and then "selection > cursor"

and you're done.

Thank you so much eMirage :)

I keep forgetting the importance of the "point of origin" when doing these kind of things.

Another question:

I have made a group with 3 objs, each named in a way that their names end with ".001" and so forth. Yet when I paint them, they get all painted at once, as opposed to painting one per click.
Does anyone know what setting determines this?

Thanks,

JDL

Should you feel like having a closer look at my file here it is (http://a5zi3w.bay.livefilestore.com/y1pIevjg_88eYWPpmUluU39jP8IIxu3PnkQh_ocxiBZIDd9kYhJx_xYxlRhVq_rJB14L2A53QcLDo7XcSNX9y5ad_Yw14QebTSv/painted_instanced_Objs.zip?download)

Thanks in advance guys,

Nevermind guys!
N00bie (http://blenderartists.org/forum/member.php?u=46159) from BlenderArtists.org got the answer:
"dupligroup is selected, which uses the whole group at once."

So I just unchecked Doupligroup and that was it!

You also have to set the Strength parameter to 1. The Strength parameter is located on the Particles Edit panel (load with the N-key) when in the Particles mode.

Funny, I was in the middle of replying your reply at the Blender Cookie site ;)

Thanks for the info Kernon :)

If you duplicate an object using "Duplicate Linked," you create an object that literally points-to the same underlying definition information ("obData").

Things like "DupliVert" effectively do the same thing.

When you update these object-characteristics, you are updating the underlying object-data. Every instance reflects the change.
