CGTalk - Brush Select without selecting through

I'm talking about the function where you press B twice to get the brush selection tool.

It works great, except it selects every face in the region.

I'm so used to Maya's Paint Selection tool which only selects the faces in view at the time, not anything on the other side of the mesh.

How can I make Blender only select the faces on the side of the mesh closest to the view?

Press the little cube icon next to the vert,edge,face icons.
