I think it's really nice, but i would love to se more weathered, dirty textures. And also some smoother details maybe. The edges are very sharp and it gives it kind ov a modeled look.
Other than that...

thanks ElKrullo & kaktuswasser. i wanted to make it more weathered, but then it's a godlike place so it must be very tidy ;)
agree about the sharp edges, i added some small, slight dents, seems they are hardly noticable... ah well.
remember this is 5 hours work

This is a very good piece of work seeiing as you only worked 5 hours on it. It feels as if it is a tad overexposed (centre/left) but it definatly feels divine:)

maybe it's a bit too bright, yes... but i wanted to create some sort of "godlike" atmosphere...

it's a bit too bright may be..just needs some tweaking to get the right effect..but i like the mood of it..

I noticed later that you only spent five hours on it.
Concidering that, it's a great job! I'm totally impressed! :)

thanks very much ElKrullo.
it's just a pity that it doesnt get more comments, either negative or positive.
maybe some people just go like "blender?..pff" and close the thread again.

I think it's excellent, @ndy. The details on the very last pic you posted look great. It's an interesting interpretation of a godlike place - I'd never imagine the colours to look so old and faded. Makes it look decadent in a way - or like a power that has stood the test of time.

front page material, IMO. The cobwebs are great.
PLEASE tell me you are already working in the industry. (one less competitor)
Fantastic work.
As far as "blender" is concerned... I pay more attention to work done in the free tools. At least I know for sure I'm looking at someone who will play the hand he's dealt.

Impressive work !:applause:
the style of the architecture is more reminiscent of some oriental place than a north mythologic place though.

Wow that was done with Blender. That just shows you its the artist, not the tool. Your rendition of Asgard is great. Is that supposed to be the Tree of Life to the left of the entrance? This is an awesome picture, especially since it took less than 10 hours. :applause:

CourtJester: no, i'm not working in the industry [i wish i would be some day tho]. i'm 18 years old and i still go to school. 3D is only my hobby so far :)
Roger Nguyen: yeah, kinda. i have to admit that i was mostly inspired by rivendell in LOTR [just love alan lee's illustrations... i think he made illustrations of asgard as well]. I havent studied norse architecture deep enough, i'm afraid... it just felt "right" to me...
VWTornado: no, i guess it's just a regular tree ;)

on cgtalk I can do this:
how did you achieve the true displacement map-thingy on the pilars?
or are the crakcs and dents hand painted in postpro?

yes, exactly. i took the rendered image and smothened the walls out and added shadow, highlights and specular points to almost every stone :scream:
it was kinda hard, but it was worth it... better than modelling every single stone.
i really like this combination of 2D and 3D because the result almost looks like a painted image.

well I got to say you work is excellent, purely and a rare
event to see such a master peace come out of blender..
I know this personally because I'm also very good with
blender and know it's limitations and it's strong points..
PS: dude you are truly ( in my eyes ) one of the few masters of blender... ;)
The district to be made to long for
i like it :applause:

Cheers, mate. Beautiful work. I'm impressed with the post-pro work, too. Nice touches!
Could you have used a specular map or reflection map to CG the hilights on the stones? Might save you having to do it in post-pro every time you want to change angles. Just a thought!
Gorgeous.... it's my desktop pic now.

well, i have a spec map on the stones, but since i had to smooth out all the edges the whole light situation changed and i had to make the highlights stonger...

I love the tree - quite an unusual design - like it's been starved of water and exposed to the elements.
I don't know much about Norse Mythology but it's in-tree-ged me.
Well done!

Hey, great work for five hours.
Few coments, try to give more deph to the sky with some more defined clouds, sun and perhaps a field with crops fading in the horizont in the botton. And ho knows a longer project to dazzle us with your talent.

I believe the pic is also on his website at http://www.artificial3d.com/images/asgardnew.jpg
Not sure if that's the right one though.
It's the first time I've seen it and it is amazing. It's because of works like these that I will never bash a low end 3d prog ever. Bravo @ndy, keep on wowing us :D
