JaredTaylor 11-06-2009, 01:46 AM I setup my advanced twist controls, the hip control rotates the spine, but the chest control wont rotate the spine.

Do you have a parent or constraint between the chest control and the spline IK handle?

hi there,
Since Y axis of your spine joints points towards the child, the up axis you specify should be either of the perpendicular axes. That is Y or Z.Note that Y is the aim axis not the up axis.
But in advanced twist you have the choice of either Y or Z.So in this case since Y is not available, and your Z is pointing in world Z direction.I assume your character is facing the positiveZ direction(Thats what I could read from the image, since the view axis is blocked by the outliner ) you have to set it to positiveZ and up vector and up vector 2 values to be 0 0 1 and 0 0 1.hope that helps

I now have those exact settings, but he still doesn't twist! Could I send you the project file?
I tried making a parent constraint between the chest ctrl and IK handle but didn't help. Neither of the twist controls make the spine twist.

hi,
This is a common problem that occurs when we choose Y-down for the spline ik joints.Anyways u can send me the files. Will have a look at it and help you out.

in order to use the advanced twist functions of the SPLINE_IK in maya , you NEED TO "orient your joints with X-axis as the AIM_axis" !!! else it won't work
in your case , you used the Y_axis .

Thank you, that's all it took!
