Really good atmosphere in this...uh...render? :D Looks like a very subtle blend between CG and 2D. I like the message as well, and the colors are beautiful, too.
Just awesome :)

Very nice render. It looks so much better since you changed the rust.

Really beautiful. I love your bot. The lighting really shows him off well. What'd you use for the flowers and grass?

Hi Miketeche,
Though I have seen the development of this robot
I wasn't expected such a great piece of art.

Thanks for the comments!:D
This was done in Cinema 4D. The grass was done with a plugin called Hair Dept. and I modeled the flowers by hand.

Really nice!
Only the ground in front of him and the grass looks a bit too CG I think. I love the sky. It adds a lot to it. How did you create the smoke?

I agree about the ground in front. I struggled with that.
The smoke was comped in with Photoshop. It's actually cigarette smoke.

Nice touch, I have been following the development of this as well and are also surprised with how it has ended, what a cool idea!, good the ground in the front is letting it down a bit, but I really like this.

Hey, I wasn't expecting an image this good from following your wip! ;) The robot has a much better distribution of rust now and I also like the situation you've put him in -- flaming buildings in the background, smoke filling the sky as well as rising from his mounted gun and yet he stops to smell the flowers. Great lighting as well (although the ground could be better, as you said yourself). I really like it!

A possible remedy for the cg look of the foreground is to add another foreground even closer to the camera and blurred by dof. Perhaps you could have some flowers or grass blades extruding from the lower edges of the image. Not only would this hide the cg ground but it would add depth as well. By the way, this image reminds me of Rustboy - that's a compliment. I admire the proportions of the robot and the environment you've composed but the head lacks needed detail. I wish there was an antenna, mouth, or even eyelids. Great image, it has potential.

Really great replies. Thanks
Just to note, he purposfully has a lack of detail on his head because I didn't want there to be any outward sign that he has any real intellegence.

What about using a photo texture for the ground?
Sort of a dried out, cracked mud surface with a nice bumpmap?
I think the grass would look better with texture too. And just a touch of specular.
Just some ideas!
Keep it up! :)

That's really cool
You should do more with the clouds in the background, they don't really do much at the moment to add to the picture.
This is really good though, keep it up

Now that's more like it!
I think the grass is a bit oversaturated now tho...
Gah! I feel like an old lady... just complaining! hehe
Great improvement to a great picture! :)

WHOA!! that is awesome, although i like the first version better, if u're going to keep the new ground, i think you should darken it up some more, like the other ground was.
