View Full Version : Light Leaks
kmwhitt 08-16-2003, 08:26 PM Can anyone explain why I am getting a shroud of light around the hood area in this view? I have two omnis casting soft shadows within the carcass of the hood, however, the hood is faced on all sides except for the bottom. There should not be any leaks.....
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin

That's the very nature of Soft Shadows. You can TRY fooling around with the bias settings, or making a higher res shadow map, but it's most likely going to leak.
Also, try making your geometry have some thickness, instead of just a single poly thick. Make the hood completely intersect with the wall, and even try putting some shadow-catchers in there (a plane that the camera can't see that blocks the area. Sometimes with soft shadows, they can sneak around as many as three polys before they stop.
Good luck!

Oh, and raytraced area shadows never leak, but your render time will explode. Badly.
You could also try light clipping and light falloff of linear, with linear you will need to increase the strength though.

The hood had no thickness..... By adding it, the problem has been corrected....
I appreciate the help!
